Consciousness
This was a collage project used to illustrate the mystery of consciousness. The base was an antique stock anatomical sketch. The veins of the figure were colored in to reference the Tree of Life. The body of the figure was rendered as the dirt from which the Tree grows. From the Tree emerges a lantern that symbolizes the light of consciousness. Surrounding the figure is Robert Fludd's Anima Mundi diagram of the correspondences between man and all parts of the created universe.
The image as a whole depicts both physical and non-physical attributes of consciousness. From the evolutionary history of the earth, consciousness has arisen from the 'dirt' of the earth, or the chemical elements particular to this planet. And behind every "I am," there is that light that 'illuminates' this experience, or the possibility of experience itself.
